Recently, I bought a bottle of DaVinci Gourmet Vanilla Syrup. It’s sugarless, containing Splenda for its sweetener. I had hoped to use it in my iced coffee, since that was one of the uses on the label, and it was sold in the coffee aisle at the grocery store.
This is possibly the worst tasting syrup I’ve ever had. It’s like putting vanilla Chloraseptic in my coffee. It leaves an aftertaste and the taste while drinking my iced coffee is just awful.
I paid almost $4 for this 12 ounce bottle, and it was a complete waste of money.

I had never heard of this before last night. A convenience store we stop at occasionally will be selling some not-so-healthful foods soon, and they will be cooked using a greaseless fryer. This bit of news was from the guy who works there.
Being a rather inquisitive individual, I looked it up on the internet. I could not imagine how such an appliance would work. A greaseless fryer is a sort of oven, I found out. It’s supposed to produce the crispy exterior of frying but without the grease and fat. It’s also supposed to be safer, since there is no danger from hot grease. And cheaper, because this appliance costs less to buy and operate than a conventional fryer.
I don’t know when it will be installed or when they’ll start selling these foods cooked in it, but I’ll let you know when it all comes to pass and I’ve tried the food myself.

I’m always looking for remedies for this problem so that I can be pain free, even if just for a few hours. I think I’ve found the remedy in a product called Freeze It. Since the arthritis is in both hands and I wanted to test its effectiveness. I used it on one hand only. In seconds it began warming my hand and joints to the point where I had more movement and far less pain than usual. It also absorbed quickly so there wasn’t any residue on my hand.
You know that I love to use products that I can easily obtain, and that work well. For instance, I use coconut oil as a makeup remover and hair conditioner. I use cocoa butter as a moisturizer for my dry skin. These are things I can easily locate at the grocery store or beauty supplies place. One big problem I have, though, whether I’m cooking or typing or crafting is the arthritis in my knuckles. Some days it gets so bad I can’t even make a fist or take the top off a bottle of water.
As you can see, my knuckles are getting enlarged due to arthritis. The Freeze It greatly reduced the pain in those joints!
I got the Freeze It as sample packets through the mail, and I’ve since learned it can be purchased for around $10 or so over the counter. It’s more effective for me than anything else I’ve tried, and maybe I can reduce the amount of pain killers I take by using this product. In case you haven’t heard of it or don’t have commercial television (we don’t), here’s the TV commercial that’s running for it:

We didn’t get home from work until about 2 A.M. Since I didn’t cook the pork chops yesterday afternoon, we decided to have them when we got home. Yes, it’s really late to be cooking!
I fried the pork chops in the electric skillet. While they were frying, I sliced some green tomatoes. After the chops were done, I floured and fried the tomatoes and sliced some fresh cucumber to go with the meal.
I have to tell you, it was all super good and great comfort food. Even at this late hour, nothing beats a good ol’ southern style meal of fried pork chops, fried green tomatoes, and cucumbers.

When I cook chicken, I always let it soak in a brine before I cook it. I put about 1/2 cup of salt over the chicken that’s been placed in a bowl, and add water to cover it. I’m trying this today with boneless pork loin chops.
Instead of using a bowl, though, I’ve put it all in a gallon zip bag. That will save some of the cleanup and still do the job.
I’ve not tried brining pork chops before so I’ll let you know how it comes out, but it should work the same way it does for chicken. Brining tends to give meat moisture and flavor.

Instead of the usual stint at Walmart, shopping for groceries yesterday, I went to the Save-A-Lot. For under $40 I got five packages of various meats and other incidentals that would have cost me at least $60 at Walmart or more at other grocery stores. I really do like saving money and when I can shop during regular daytime hours, Save-A-Lot is the place I like to go.
You do have to bag your own groceries there, but it’s worth that little inconvenience to save so much money on food.
Since it’s still fairly early in the day, I can prepare a nice mid-afternoon meal so we have something home cooked and delicious to eat before we have to go to work tonight.

It’s clear that vending machine operators are actually listening to concerns about health issues. When I used to clean businesses, I noticed a lot of them have begun to carry things like fresh apples, bananas, and other healthful foods. Vending machines themselves have changed a lot, too. For instance, a multivend machine can offer a wide variety of items down to as small as one inch in diameter.
Multivend has been in the vending machine business since 1990 and has enabled many people to begin their own business with their own machines. They have also improved the capabilities of their vending machines so that the owner can know exactly how much money they’ve made due to the digital updating of the quarters inserted.
Since 2003, Multivend has enjoyed a worldwide presence, welcoming almost 9,000 new members to the ever-growing vending machine business. This is really food for thought for me, since I’m always looking for ways besides my work at McDonald’s to generate additional income.

My first attempt at making ice cream in the EuroPro went ok. It was still very soft but it tasted great. The second attempt was a failure and I’m not sure what went wrong. It started to freeze, then suddenly started melting.
I’ve been mulling this over today and I will be trying some new tactics. One, is that I think all the ingredients will need to be chilled. The first attempt, the ingredients came out of the fridge so they were already chilled nicely. But the ingredients for the second one were pretty much room temperature.
Also, I think that even though the canisters came straight out of the freezer after overnight freezing, they thaw too quickly. I might try putting a thick towel around the whole thing to see if that insulates them enough to freeze ice cream before they thaw out.
I’ll keep you updated on my progress tomorrow, since I just put the canisters in the freezer a little while ago.

With our busy schedule, sometimes it’s hard to fit in a good, home cooked meal. I managed it yesterday only because it was day 2 of two days off.
What did I prepare? Fish, corn, green beans, and rice.
I put rice in the lower tray of the steamer, and green beans and corn in the two top trays. I added butter to them both, plus added a bit of onion soup mix and brown sugar to the green beans. I also added the soup mix to the rice. I let that steam about 15 minutes before I started the fish.
I put sliced onions and red bell peppers in the electric skillet with olive oil. After I sweated them, I added fish fillets right on top of them. I tossed in some lemon basil, and sprinkled in salt and pepper.
Everything got done at the same time, so in all it was about 40 minutes from start to finish. Not bad for a whole meal, I think.
It all looked very appetizing on the plate, and it tasted great. We love fish cooked this way anyway, so it’s always a hit.

The four-board farm table I have in the kitchen is great. It’s sturdy and friendly and makes the kitchen feel like home. But cooking isn’t the only thing I do.
Since I like to design jewelry, perhaps a drafting table to put in the bedroom would be in order. Even though drafting table s are most often used in businesses or classrooms, I would think one in a home office or craft room would work out very nicely. It would give the user plenty of room on which to develop their plans and designs. After all, not everyone works out of an office these days. With the abundance of home businesses around, tables that fit particular needs are a good idea.
